Sidewalk Labs is an urban-innovation organization based in New York. In 2019, they released “Toronto Tomorrow” a proposal to transform Toronto’s Waterfront district into a high-tech, innovative community. Eddie Opara’s team at Pentagram was tasked to design the four-volume, 1,500-page document.

According to Pentagram, “The designers wanted a typographic tone of voice somewhere between sharp and technological and warm and human. They looked at the expressive differences between serif and sans serif font, ultimately selecting both, but in unconventional choices.” Alongside other typefaces, the team chose to use Beatrice for text and body copy, and numerals from Beatrice Display.
